What Do Periodontists Do?

As mentioned earlier, periodontics is the one in charge of the supporting structures and tissues of Your Teeth.

Listed below is a list of what periodontists usually do:

  • Periodontal Disease Treatment

Periodontal diseasesPeriodontal diseases are usually caused by not taking care of your teeth and gums properly. Dental plaque, a sticky substance that is created by bacteria from foods that we eat, is one of the major causes of it, as they form several hours after we brush our teeth. Fascinatingly, our own body’s response to the bacteria is the leading cause of most periodontal problems. In the effort of our body’s immune system to remove the bacteria, it introduces a substance to our gums that cause its inflammation and destruction, making it bleed.

Good Oral hygiene usually takes care of this, but if it grows beyond your control, it is best to visit a periodontist. They provide a wide array of gum
treatments, surgeries, and antibiotics.

  • Preventive and Therapeutic Cleaning

Even Without the sign of periodontal diseases, periodontics can still provide preventive cleaning to keep your oral health in top shape. In some cases, massive tartar deposits can be accumulated by not visiting a dentist. When this happens, it is best for you to take therapeutic cleaning, or as advised by your periodontists.

  • Placement and Maintenance of Dental Implants

Periodontists Also provide artificial tooth for those who lost a tooth and wants to put a permanent one back, instead of dentures. To do this, the periodontist will first place an artificial tooth root into the jaw, where it joins with the jawbone. This process is called osseointegration. After several days of healing, an artificial tooth will be attached to the implanted root, completing the process.

Most people Overlook visiting their dentists since they think that it’s just a waste of time and money since they don’t feel anything wrong with their teeth. But, always remember, the most annoying pain of all is a toothache, not to mention periodontal diseases. Give your dentist a visit or two each year, and you won’t have to worry about this.
