Job Description:   **RN PCU - CPT, 6:45pm - 7:15am** **Description** Pay Scale: $34.34 - $52.53 **Shift:** Casual Part Time, 6:45pm - 7:15am Job Summary: Under the direction of the Critical Care Nursing Director, the PCU RN performs duties of considerable difficulty, applying professional nursing theory and principles, and utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care given to patients. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing patient care. Demonstrates clinical, organizational and communication skills in dealing with patients, families and other healthcare workers. Essential Duties: + Observes, collects, & records data related to patient’s biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, and self-care ability, as well as educational & discharge planning needs. + Analyzes assessment data to formulate a nursing diagnosis & to provide the basis for planning timely and effective nursing interviews. + Implements an age appropriate plan of care in conjunction with the physician, patient, patient’s family, significant others, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. + Documents & utilizes patient data to measure progress toward attainment of patient outcomes and patient goals. + Documents the care given in a complete and timely manner. + Provides specialized nursing care to patients in PCU. + Effectively manages & utilizes sophisticated equipment associated with progressive care. + Management of the chronic ventilator patient and emergency intervention. + May float after orientation to other departments such as Medical, Surgical, Family Birthplace, Behavioral Health, Critical Care, etc. + Identifies the learning needs of the patient and significant others, and initiates measures to meet those needs within the patient’s assessed learning abilities. + Incorporates the patient’s individual social, emotional, and cultural needs into the planning and teaching process. + Involves patient & significant other in education and decision making process related to patient’s care. + Completes documentation related to teaching intervention, progress, and outcomes. + Administers medication according to hospital policies/procedures to ensure patient safety. + Provides for and follows precautions to ensure patient safety related to fall prevention. + Ensures that equipment is available, in proper place, and maintained in working condition. + Utilizes safety equipment in accordance with hospital policies to ensure for own and co-worker safety needs. + Provides direction to other team members of the nursing team to ensure that patient care needs are met in a safe and knowledgeable manner. + Ensures that the delivery of patient care reflects efficient and effective utilization of resources (multidisciplinary). + Creates an environment that fosters professional behavior to meet the needs of patients, staff, and the organization. + Shares knowledge in the educational process with co-workers and new staff members. + Attends educational programs, in-services, and continuing education to promote self-development and the advancement of clinical knowledge and skills. + Attend department meetings or read and initials staff meeting minutes – 80% compliance. + Accountable to identify and seek out learning experiences relevant to normal job functions. + Maintains competence required in assigned practice area. + Demonstrates ability in the core handling of patients in all age groups related to practice area includes special consideration and their specific need. + Actively participates in achievement of facility, department, personal, and professional objectives. Participates in Performance Improvement activities to improve care, processes, and customer service excellence. + Provision of nursing care is consistent with Mercy Medical Center’s Standards of Care, Patient Rights & Responsibilities, and Assurance of Confidentiality. **Qualifications** License/Certification: + Current RN license issued by the State of Oregon. + PCCN preferred. + Must have current BLS on hire. + Must have ACLS within 3 months of hire. Experience: + 2 years of current critical care experience preferred.
