Generally, the annual income of a breast surgeon can be roughly within the range of $300,000 – to $350,000. Those practicing surgical ontology, or surgery on the breast due to cancer, can expect to earn slightly higher, at around $370,000. A 2015 publication in the Annals of Surgical Oncology delved more in-depth into the salaries of physicians part of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. Out of the 843 breast surgeons who were surveyed, their average income in 2013 was $330,700. Those who operated under private practice reported slightly lower earnings, at $249,200, while those working at hospitals demonstrated higher-than-average incomes at $368,000. Interestingly enough, there was a statistically significant difference between genders, with male breast surgeons earning a markedly higher annual salary ($378,000) compared to their female counterparts ($310,000).

The future earning potential of breast surgeons does look promising, with the Bureau of Labor Statistics predicting a 24% rise of market demand within this decade. Added to this is the proliferation of plastic surgery centers along with the increased spending on both cosmetic and non-cosmetic procedures. Given this, breast surgeons are likely to enjoy steady increases in their annual income in the coming decades.
