Job Description:
Certified
Nursing Assistants provide direct Patient Care in hospitals,
clinics, doctors’ offices, nursing homes, long term care and
rehabilitation facilities.
Their training is
shorter than what is required for a Medical Assistant (MA) and
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
CNAs are
not able (licensed) to pierce the
patient's skin (MAs and LPNs are licensed).
These very
important support positions have many different job titles, including
CNAs, NACs, Nurses’ Aides, Hospital
Assistant, Attendant, or Orderly.
CNAs work under the direction of
Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Physicians. Activities
include:

Provide accurate, timely documentation.
Report care provided and patient observations, including
unusual or significant changes in physical, mental, or
behavioral conditions.

Provide and/or
help patients with activities of
daily living, such as grooming, oral hygiene, bath/shower,
hair assistance, feeding and nourishment, and incontinence care.

Provide and/or
help patients with passive range of
motion exercises, including transfers to/from bed, floor,
wheelchair, and shower chairs as needed.

Obtain vital signs,
such as height, weight, intake and output measurements, and document meal/nourishment
consumption.
